Son of bullshit, petried, not stirred.

The artist previously known as "Jeff from Greenfield" was the first to speak out on this.

WPXI was played like a $2 ukelele. McCain campaign gives expert testimony on assailents state of mind/motivation, channel !! reports it as gospel truth. In a pittsburgh TV market which is at best embarrasing, channel 11 has distinguished themselves as the worst of the worst. Just take a convienient charecturization from a biased source and run with it.

Fearfull small minded people, find more to be fearfull and small minded about.

Some bullshit, weaves into the space /time continuum so as not to stand out, others stand out like a dog turd on a bright green rug.

well, CET, I was kind of interested in this story.

If you don't own a dog, and you're out there mowing the lawn, and all of a sudden you smell dog shit, you have to stop for a second and check your shoes. Then you have to wonder where it came from.

So, I was so interested in this story that this morning I tuned into 'the blowhard' to hear their take.

Earnest Smartypantsglasses was appropriately skeptical, but being the consummate professional that he is, ably cajoled his audience to call and express the voice of Pittsburgh.

The first caller, a woman whose voice I recognized as being a dissenting bloviater from Lynn's show started...

'Ya know, I'm not a racist.....'

and then the hook....

'If Obama is elected, you can expect more of this kind of thing.'

Now, obviously, the quotes aren't exact, but you get the gist.

She went on to say that blacks will feel empowered and that they will start fights over parking spaces.

She's not racist, remember.

I listened to 'the blowhard' from 9AM til about 2PM. I called the guy from Nashville who was really beating the drum, but while on hold he brought up Ayers and I couldn't help but call him on it. I told him that he should be concerned since Colin Powell, Susan Eisenhower, the Goldwater family had all endorsed Obama.

He was so smug that I finally resorted to telling him, 'Fuck You.'

CET, I know you don't like violence, but I'm a failed human, and I'd like to kick that guy's ass.

Kind of odd for a guy who found a genuine delight in seeing Pete Seeger on Letterman last night.

I guess I'm just fed up with the manipulation of simple folk. Those folk actually trust what is being fed to them. It's sad, and it's enraging to see what has become of an historically sensible nation.

Guys like Marty, guys like Kevin, blessed by the conditioning of Limbaugh and the gang, have a formula. The audience is so well trained that 'the hosts' don't have to be provocative. They need only ring the bell and like Pavlov's dogs, the audience comes running for the meat.

Yeah, CET.

Fear. They use it like Michelangelo used a chisel.

Personally, I'd like to put a little 'fear' into the cowardly hearts of those who bloviate on the sad assed first radio station in the world.

Peace brother. : )

True, they do use this as red meat Jeff, but they use it for both sides of the aisle. For every person that will call up and nod their head in agreement with a Marty or Kevin, they rely equally on those that will be pissed off and are tuning in just to hear what they say about said issue (as if that couldn't be ascertained well ahead of time). It isn't about being right or wrong on an issue, it is all about audience size, so they can then turn around and look at their advertisers and say "We got "x" number of people listening....". If it were really about any thread of truth or conviction in what they say, then wouldn't Rush have argued for himself to be incarcerated for his pill overusage, when that was what he argued should be the punishment of drug abusers in the past?

Talk radio is nothing about truth, it is about either tuning in to hear what you want to hear, or tuning in to be pissed off at what you are about to hear. But truth for the sake of truth has no place in radio, because the audience has shown time and time again they would rather listen to something else.

Matt, you're absolutely correct about the motivation behind that kind of programming.

I'm a fool. I let myself be reeled in.

I can promise you, that I will never tune in that station again, even if my house is on fire and they are the only station reporting from the scene.

Gents, you do me proud, wish we could take all this energy and...put it in to a talk show or something.

Matt, you are the "Mr spock" of radio, finding logic in the domain when all others see is the diarrhea of chaos.

I am more like Jeff, reacting viscerally to this shit. Though his response was precise, i would have elaborated thus; "I am a downright peacenik, but you have pushed me so far, that i shall shove this flower festooned protest sign up your ass, singing "Kumbaya" all the while.

It isn't logic so much as it is an understanding of the medium. These days there are two types of radio, the standard type which relies on garnering an audience to get by, whether that be music or talk, you are all about putting butts into seats. In that regard they don't care if you agree or disagree to the message they are peddling, just as long as you are occupying a seat.
The other option is what I am tied into now, where you yod don't care about the size of the audience, you just sell the air time and live off of the checks of the snake oil salesman du jour. As long as his or her check clears, all is wholesome and good in the world.
Neither option is geared toward quality or truthiness, but then again, if truthiness were in vogue, CSPAN would be the highest rated cable channel as opposed to the one of the lowest.
