Death of talk radio in Pittsburgh, take 2
The Post Gazette did not even note it, But more than WAMO ceased to exist as of last friday.
Clinging by her finger nails to the crashing radiozeppelin, was Lynn Cullen.
Lynn had talked her way back on the air with Wamo managment, battled a poor time slot, a signal not as strong and further north than that of 1360 but still had an audience building and advertising on the up swing when a 3.8 million dollar purchase by religious broadcasters short circuited the comeback.
Lynn deserves credit for her tenacity in landing the WAMO gig and for the great years of radio she brought to Pittsburgh. It was nice to have a talk show with some class and culture (imagine a Marty Griffin interview with Sam Hazo). Problem is, that there aren't many options left, station wise for Lynn, or anyone proposing talk radio of any serious intellectual caliber. Commercial radio needs to be scrapped and turned into micro and regional broadcasting with the required condition of "serving the public interest as a public trustee"until then, good luck with a parade of tent preachers, Chiropractors,snake oil salesmen and right wing gassbags.
A force has turned broadcasting in to the "vast wasteland" predicted, that force is un-bridled, deregulated capitalism.

nutty gun nutz
This was originally posted at Matts blog, but being as it came out so well, I aint writing something new, other that to say that this dumbassed mother of the pittsburgh cop killer needs to take her complaints on to "The Jerry Springer Show"......
"Sorry for denying predictability, but I believe in the whole bill of rights and see no reason to mess with gun laws.
What we need is bullshit control.
We have the mother of this asshole all pissed off at the post gazette for its timid reporting on the "less than stellar" path of his life, threatening to sue them.
She has seen her son flunk out of North Catholic, recieve a PFA for threatening his girlfreinds life and physically assaulting her, get kicked out of the services for assaulting his drill Sargent, stockpile an arsenal of ammo and guns including an AK-47, hang out with fellow "shiftless white boys" reading " the turner diaries" and "protocols of the elders of zion" and books by David Duke, and to be standing by for the police to execute the upcoming "Obama gun ban" (prying his gun from his cold dead hand).
With all this in mind, she calls 911 to have the police evict her son because his dog peed on the floor.
In a perfect and omniscient world, the dispatcher would have said,"sounds like a complex circumstance, you are the expert, we aint commin'"
....Also for the mental giants who soak up the afore mentioned nativist bullshit stated in the form of computer logic

A video clip of "McLaughlin Group" shows what i am talking about; that no matter how much practical damage had been done in the Nixon and Reagan administrations by Buchannon, he is a paragon of reasonabilityness compared to the new breed of conservatives.
In this instance it was Monica Crowley blathering like Ayan Rand on acid, while Buchanon points out that" regulated" companies (such as PBS sponsor MetLife) are not in trouble, while post Glass-Steegle unregulated AIG showed the self restraint of an NFL 1st round draft pick in a jewelry store.
Buchannon has, at least, been successful in the sphere of public policy, the industry of politics, if you will, while Crowley and Tammy Bruce and Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter and Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh propagandize the ultimate fictitious figure of americana; the network radio listener,strung out on Clariton, lying on their Craftmatic adjustable bed, gazing at stars named after themselves in a national star registry( certificate of authenticity suitable for framing, use only as directed), filling their labour fatigued souls with truthyness from a pack of BS specialists who never held a real job in their lives.

Shit yer brains out on Salmonella tainted peanut butter!
Slather up a slab of wonderbread for fatass Rush. Peanut a pita for Billo, a nice French baggette for Hannity, Khubz Arabi for Savage and Pan de Muertos for Lou Dobbs.
For while they have spooked their followers with tales of evildoers in the guise of A-rabs, Mexicans,frenchmen and Regulators they will be smitten by the plaque they helped perpetrate.
May their spews and gas and howles combine to the approximate notes of "God Bless the USA" in full tribute to the masquerade.
Meanwhile, back at the "Liberal Media" an insider had a documented story of how FDA regulators were called in from the field, but was turned down by the New York Times and Boston Globe.
