Was first drawn by an article of how Pakistan has lost a province to the Taliban.
Also saw anouther where a widely read neo-con gives a favorable comparison of the U.S. and the Roman Empire!
What did that Santayana guy say about repeating history again?

The Neo-Cons, Clair, have pretty much been routed in the last election. From what I've read they took the worst of it in the 2008 elections.
What's left over is mostly a combination of paleo-Conservatives and libertarian Republicans, with a few moderates thrown in.
However the Israeli influence is still there. Netanyahu brags that he can get Obama to help him attack Iran.

I would invite similar assesments of what is left of the republicans.
As to the last paragraph, I think Obamas speech to the Iranian People, reduces the chance of conflict with us, though Iran will always be a target in Israeli internal politics.
Iranian distrust of Israel has no practical, primary causation, it is all the result of U.S. policy; the overtrown of Mossedech in 1953 and the 1972 deal for the Shah to purchase F-18 fighters by supplying gasoline to Israel. Iran is the only country on Earth to have had an author of one of the books of the old testiment as head of state (Esther).
